Contract negotiations are already underway. The contract for all Southern California grocery workers expired on March 5th, and is currently in an extension period. These grocery workers are seeking a fair share of the record profits the corporate supermarket owners are currently raking in, and will be seeking the support of the public for this position..
What's at Stake?
Grocery workers' wages, benefits, and working conditions are all being negotiated in this new contract. An additional priority is to push the corporate employers to do the right thing and eliminate the two tiers in the current contract, give grocery workers equal treatment for equal work, while providing a fair benefits package for all employees.
What are the issues?
Our issues are about fairness and respect:
- Elimination of the two tier contract
- Guarantee of equal pay for equal work
- Fair benefits and pensions for all employees
The corporate employers are going to try and plead that poverty, non-union competition, and the economy prevent them from being fair to us. But their arguments just don't hold up -- just look at the facts
